As of 2004, all Driving Under the Influence (DUI) offenders are required to receive:
-
A Court Reporting Network (CRN) evaluation, to determine if there is a need for a more comprehensive drug and alcohol assessment.
-
Alcohol Highway Safety School classes.
PHMC operates the Office of the DUI Coordinator (ODC) and works with a network of certified DUI Service Providers.
Services
-
Coordination of all state-required services, as determined at the pre-sentence hearing:
-
CRN evaluation
-
Assessment for drug and alcohol treatment
-
Alcohol Highway Safety School classes
-
-
Linkage to substance use treatment services
-
Support on drivers’ license restoration
Once a participant meets all state-required criteria, they are eligible for restoration of driving privileges. The Clerk of Courts issues a court order compliance form to PennDOT (Department of Transportation) to process the request.
Eligibility & Referrals
-
A judge assigns all participants (individuals arrested with DUI offenses) to providers like PHMC. Referrals are based on location and/or language considerations.
-
Through the ODC, PHMC processes DUI cases of Philadelphia residents.
-
Participants with DUI cases that occurred in another state or county may complete their legal requirements in Philadelphia County. For these cases, ODC will need a referral from the state or county where the DUI offense occurred.
